mess

+ Help - How to Setup Mess

This emulator is required or recommended for Atari 5200 (a5200), Atari 7800 (a7800), Bandi Wonderswan Color (wscolor), Bally Astrocade (astrocde), Coleco ColecoVision (coleco) and GCE Vectrex (vectrex).

Emulator Required:: Mess

For some consoles, MESS is the best chooice for use in MultiFE, so I have joined help for these systems into this page. Otherwice I recommered to use dedicated emulators for each system.

To configurere MESS is pretty the same as MAME, so you can do the same here and it have a good indepth help file how to use it, so you should read how to do that there (it not hard).

To point MESS in MultiFE's config. You should just select the system used, and then point to the main folder of MESS. MultiFE would so automatic scan for your software from the correct software subfolder.

Where to put roms and software?

Mess use the shortnames as you can see in the parentes above for the system supported for MultiFE. All bios should been keept zipped, named as the shortname system with the zip extension (like a5600.zip) and place them into the roms folder (not in the bios folder).

For software self, MESS use the software folder using the short system name as the subfolder name. For Atari 5600, it named software/a5600 for its software.

For snaps, its snaps/a5600 and video should been video/a5600 (not shown in the below screenshot and with some bios missing).

Why not to support all supperted systems?

I (Space Fractal) recommered to use dedicated emulators, since most of these emulators is really mature and known all/most tricks the game might use. Howover MESS is really great and would later on get more system support to been used in MultiFE. Let me known what you want.

Best use with GoodTools & Tosec sets

This collection use goodtools and tosec renamed romfiles. MultiFE scan both of these in one folder only and no subfolder is supported. All unique games is joined as a one game. When a user have selected a game, then a version of that game can been selected. MultiFE is also auto detect if year and company in Tosec files is detected, even you merge them with a Goodtools set.
